Change a Spotlight Bulb

Publié le par yunaoled

Spotlight bulbs are high-intensity bulbs. They offer intense lighting and also give off more heat than a standard bulb. In the home, spotlights are usually found in overhead lights in the kitchen or in some track lighting. Changing a spotlight bulb depends on the type you have. Some bulbs plug into sockets while others screw in like a normal bulb. Replacement spotlight bulbs are available at home improvement centers and specialty lighting stores.

1
Turn off the power to the spotlight bulb fixture. It is usually best to turn off the circuit breaker to the fixture rather than just the switch.

2
Remove any covering over the LED bulb, if any is present. Some covers have a spring clip that you compress with a pair of needle nose pliers to remove. Others may have screws requiring a Phillips-head screwdriver. If you have a plug-in type bulb, slowly guide the bulb down when removing the cover.

3
Hold the electrical plug and pull the spotlight out of the socket, if your bulb is a plug-in type. Turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the socket if you have a standard screw-in type bulb.

4
Purchase a bulb with the same rating as the old bulb. The rating and amps are usually printed on the outside of the bulb.

5
Push the new bulb into the socket, for push-in type bulbs. You will hear and feel the bulb seat in the socket. Turn the bulb clockwise until hand tight, if you have the screw-in mount.

6
Place any covering or trim back over the LED spotlight bulb. Turn the circuit breaker back on to power the light.
